5.B. MAXIMUM UNIT SIZE IN RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL ZONES [L. MEISTER, Y. QUARKER, A. LOVANO]:
SUBJECT: The City Council will consider directing staff to amend the Zoning Code to create a maximum unit size in residential and commercial zones. This would be in addition to the average unit size requirements that currently exist in residential zones.
I support that there should be requirements, especially in commercial zones that have constructed multi-use projects. The larger projects in these commercial zones have gotten away with building up to 5,000 square feet of luxury apartments with no unit size requirements that have ranked up the prices of property and rent in the surrounding areas. Not to mention that these luxury apartments contrast with the city's housing goals. We have to maximize the unit size of these multi-use projects!
