2.J. NAMING OF THE INTERSECTION AT LEXINGTON AVENUE AND NORTH LA BREA AVENUE [S. CAMPBELL, H. COLLINS]:
SUBJECT: The City Council will consider the recommendation from the Public Facilities, Recreation, and Infrastructure Commission to name the intersection at Lexington Avenue and North La Brea Avenue as the "Shalom Peace Square" and approve the signage.
Problem: In its simplicity and content, the signage resembles a target for taggers. We have placed the concept of "Peace" on it in two languages. This is exclusionary and the opposite of welcoming. It infers that peace is only for those who speak these two languages.
Solution: Include the concept of "Peace" in as many languages as possible.
