Before further expenditures, please get answers to & discuss publicly: What is the level of toxic contamination on the site/surroundings & how much money has been spent on any cleanup so far? How long will remediation take? This site could ultimately be developed with mixed-use retail/housing, but it could also serve as much needed temporary parks/recreation/green space. Why fund even temporarily more usage of cars/parking when WeHo is encouraging mobility alternatives & tackling climate change?
This compromise includes installation of trees and plants. All should be among some 80 Keystone Species listed on National Wildlife Federation website. They have a disproportionately large effect on their natural environment relative to their abundance. They are trees, shrubs and flowers for bees and caterpillers. They are native and the most productive plants that support the most species. Keystone Species give us the most bang for our buck. Box trees are not a part of this list, please.
Honorable Council,
Long ago, this prime space was slated for mixed-use with housing, including affordable units. It is very disappointing that it will continue to sit under-utilized for likely another decade. I urge the the City to prioritize figuring out how to best use this real estate beyond a parking lot. Sigh!
