Animals are not commodities and should not be sold. Animals in the pet trade are subjected to neglect and cruel conditions.

As an animal lover and rescuer, I fully support this ordinance. Breeding fuels the companion animal overpopulation crisis by bringing more animals into a world that is already bursting at the seams with unwanted ones. The pet trade treats animals as mere moneymaking commodities while denying their autonomy and basic care. Thank you for doing the right thing and setting a good example for the rest of the world.

I support the approval of D.1 on today’s agenda. The animals in pet stores are individuals coming from horrible animal mills, creating life for profit. So many animals end up abandoned or left at the already bursting shelters, where they are killed. It’s a nightmarish cycle. To stay in little cages is also torture. As a citizen, I have long wanted to see an end to pet sales in my city. We don’t need it, we don’t want it. Thank you.

I support the band on the retail of small animals there’s nothing good that comes out of selling animals, especially wild animals, such as snakes, reptiles, etc. Their origins come from cruel environments where they are raised in unnatural situations and many do not even make it to the retail store. These small animals often needs specialty care and they’re purchased on impulse and end up suffering and neglected. Please support the band on the retail sales of small animals.

Dear West Hollywood City Council Members,

I urge the City Council to support Agenda Item D.1. and adopt the subject ordinance, which
would build on state law and prohibit the sale of animals in pet stores.

Animals sold in pet stores are bred in cruel mills. Local animal shelters and rescues are overwhelmed due to which countless animals are killed each year. This law
would prevent the suffering of countless animals.
    Thank you.

    Best Regards,

I wholeheartedly support the ban of live animals for sale. These animals are seen as mere products and force bred, while there are thousands of animals in shelters awaiting homes.

Please prohibit the retail sale of live animals. This ordinance helps our community as it takes pressure off of shelters and animal services. It would reduce the instance of animals being dumped, including non-native species that damage local ecosystems. Additionally, pet-stores have no prolific application process as rescues do, leading these animals into the hands of ill-prepared owners. Most animals in these facilities come from abusive breeding operations, which selling them supports.

Dear city council members, I support the approval of D.1 on today’s agenda. Pet sales further stigmatizes animals as a commodity which can be sold for profit. There is little oversight on the breeding facilities where these animals come from and pet stores don’t allow proper nourishment for animals in small cages. This is not only cruel but debilitating to their mental health. Rescue shelters need more adoptions and with recent fires have reached capacity with little resources.

Dear West Hollywood City Council Members,

I strongly urge you to support Agenda Item D.1 and adopt the ordinance to prohibit the sale of animals in pet stores. Most animals sold come from cruel mills where thousands are confined in small cages, with little oversight or enforcement. Local shelters and rescues are already overwhelmed, and this law would help prevent immense suffering while protecting vulnerable animals.

    Thank you,

I urge the City Council to support Agenda Item D.1. and adopt the subject ordinance, which would build on state law and generally prohibit the sale of animals in pet stores. Animals sold in pet stores are bred in cruel mills. Local animal shelters and rescues are overwhelmed. It’s heartbreaking to see healthy animals euthanized due to lack of resources. You can be part of the solution. This law would prevent the suffering of countless animals. Thank you for your consideration.

I urge you to support Agenda Item D.1. Animals sold in pet stores come from cruel mills where they are crammed into cages and denied basic care. Most receive no legal protections. Many are wild animals like birds and reptiles, who suffer greatly in captivity. This ordinance would prevent immense suffering, reduce the burden on local shelters, and reflect West Hollywood’s commitment to compassion and justice. Please vote YES.

    Dear City Council Members,

We urge you to support Agenda Item D.1. and adopt the subject ordinance, which would build on state law and prohibit the sale of animals in pet stores. Virtually all animals sold in stores come from cruel mills where thousands of them are confined to small cages, tubs, and pens without adequate care. Furthermore, rescues and shelters are overwhelmed with unwanted animals.

Thank you for your time and empathy.

    For the animals,
